Privacy Policy
Codafy ("the app") is a client application that lets you play music from a Plex Media Server that you own and control. We do not operate developer-run servers, and we do not collect, sell, or track your personal data on developer-operated systems. This policy explains what stays on your device, what may be stored in your personal iCloud account if you enable backup, and which services the app talks to.
1. Information We Collect
We do not collect data on developer-operated servers. The developer has no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and no backend that receives your personal data. The app does not create an account with us.
2. Data Stored on Your Device
To work, the app stores the following locally on your device only:
- Your Plex authentication token and session, used to connect to your server.
- Cached audio, artwork, and lyrics, to speed up playback and reduce data usage.
- Music you choose to download for offline playback.
- Your in-app preferences (equalizer, caching, theme, lyrics sources, etc.).
This data never leaves your device except to communicate with the servers described below.
3. Network Connections
The app connects only to:
- Your Plex Media Server — to browse and play your library.
- plex.tv — to authenticate your Plex account and read your account details.
- Lyrics sources you configure — optional third-party URLs you add yourself, contacted only to fetch lyrics for the track you are playing.
We do not control these services. Their handling of any request is governed by their own privacy policies.
Plex is a third-party service. Codafy is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Plex.
4. iCloud Backup
iCloud Backup is optional and only runs if you enable it. If enabled, your playlists, ratings, listening history (play counts), custom artwork references, and app preferences are synchronized through Apple's CloudKit service.
This information is stored in your personal iCloud account. When stored in your private iCloud database, this data is associated with your Apple ID and is not accessible to the developer through the app.
You can also export this same information to a portable backup file (.codafy) from Settings → Backup. This file is not transmitted anywhere by the app — you choose where to save or share it (e.g. Files, AirDrop, email). Once exported, you are responsible for that file's storage and any service you use to share it.
5. Support and Diagnostic Files
If you contact support using the in-app Talk to Us feature, the app can generate a diagnostic file to help troubleshoot technical issues.
The diagnostic file is generated entirely on your device and is only attached if you choose to send the support email. Nothing is transmitted automatically.
The diagnostic file does not contain authentication tokens, passwords, email addresses, or other sensitive personal identifiers. It may include technical information such as your device model, operating system version, app version, application settings, and connection details to help diagnose problems.
Before sending the email, you can review the message and remove the diagnostic file attachment if you prefer.
6. No Tracking or Advertising
The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We do not build a profile of you and we do not share data with third parties for marketing.
7. Purchases and Subscriptions
Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive, store, or have access to your payment information.
8. Your Authentication Token
Your Plex token is stored on your device and is used solely to authenticate requests to your own Plex server and to plex.tv. It is never sent to the developer.
9. Your Controls
You are always in control of your data:
- Clear cached music, images, and lyrics from Settings → Storage.
- Remove downloaded music from Settings → Storage.
- Sign out from Settings → Account to remove your Plex session from this device.
- Turn off iCloud Backup from Settings → Backup at any time. If the app provides a Delete iCloud Backup option, use it to remove backup data stored by Codafy in your personal iCloud account.
10. Children's Privacy
The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
12. European Union Users
For users in the European Union, additional developer trader information may be available on Codafy's App Store product page where required by law.
Purchases, subscriptions, billing, cancellations, and refunds are processed by Apple through the App Store and your Apple ID account.
13. Contact
